Evertrace first detected a signal of company formation for founder Eric Hostetler in March 2025. Hostetler brought product-development and operations experience from companies including Anduril and Apple. He was building Volund with a team whose backgrounds span propulsion, precision machining and manufacturing.
What they're building
Volund focuses on making propulsion systems affordable to manufacture in volume. That requires developing the production process alongside the engine, rather than treating the factory as a later step.
The company combines its own manufacturing software with engineering and production systems. The aim is to make design changes flow through the factory more efficiently and shorten the cycle from development to production.
The round
Root Ventures and Squadra Ventures co-led the $12 million seed, with participation from investors including Marlinspike, First In and Output. Tectonic Defense first covered the funding on 4 June 2026; Squadra published its press release on 9 June. The funding supports engineering, R&D and manufacturing capacity.
